Hang Gliding and Paragliding in Humboldt County, Northern California

MINUTES

January 2006

Minutes: January 18, 2006

The first meeting of the new year was held at the Fortuna Round Table at 6:00 pm. 15 members were in attendance.

President Dave Brose started the meeting with a reminder that dues were due ($20.00) for the calendar year 2006. Dues were collected from several members.

Secretary Lindsay Magnuson handed out phone lists and asked for any corrections.

New Member "Safety Dave" from the Bay area was introduced. He will start a newsgroup via email for the club.

Dave B. reminded members that our free subscriptions to the USHGA magazine are now being delivered to the CR and Humboldt County libraries.

a. Dave asked if we should consider sending these subscriptions elsewhere.

b. He also mentioned that the copy at the County Library has been checked out several times.

c. Members agreed subscriptions would remain as is.

Dave brought up the question of radio use at our USHGA insured sites.

d. Penguin recommended we post our club frequency on the website.

e. It was decided that our club frequency (HAM) would be 147.415.

f. Penguin also reminded members that the official USHGA frequencies are in the business bands: 151.625, 151.925 and others.

Mark Allen brought two issues to the table. First, he informed the club that USHGA is officially soliciting letters in support of hang/paragliding flight in National Parks. He encouraged all pilots to submit letters for a more "HG/PG friendly policy". (See here for more.)

Second, Mark provided members with copies of the civil code referring to liability of private landowners. He suggested that pilots use this information when approaching private landowners to discuss flights on their land.

Possible club activities for travel or a fly-in were discussed.

Respectfully Submitted:

Lindsay
